These countries span six continents and include Sweden, Korea, Japan, Canada, Switzerland, and Australia, which are all currently leaders in research and development. You might be surprised by some of the other countries that made it into the top 8 list!


1) USA

The USA is one of the top 8 countries in technology. The US ranks number two, just behind China. As such, it continues to be a world leader in technological development and innovation. Japan: Japan has consistently ranked among the top 8 countries in technology for decades due to its constant effort to innovate and improve on existing technologies. It is now at rank 18 on this list because it has experienced a significant decrease in technological advancement over time.


2) China

Chinese President Xi Jinping announced a plan to build China into the world's leading technological power. In order to achieve this goal, Xi plans to spend an additional $150 billion on research and development by 2020. This plan is designed to give China an even stronger lead on becoming one of the top 8 countries in technology.


3) Japan

Japan has long been a leader in the tech industry, and it's poised to continue this trend. The country is home to major companies like Sony, Panasonic, Nintendo, and Hitachi. However, many of these companies have struggled over the past few years because of competition from foreign rivals like Apple and Samsung. This surplus is due to a low level of imports from overseas, and the average German citizen consumes less than 10% of their income on imported goods.

The UK is the third largest tech market in Europe and the sixth largest in the world. With a population of more than 66 million people, there is a wealth of potential for this country to take it's place among the top countries leading tech. 

The Government has recognised that being a world leader requires investment, which is why they have committed to spending £2 billion on computer science training by 2020. There are also plans to create up to 10,000 new apprenticeships for children aged 14-18 by 2022.


7) France

France is ranked number six on the list of top countries leading in technology. Known for its art and culture, France has an advantage with its population’s high level of education. French people are well versed with tech and social media, having one of the highest usage rates of Facebook and Twitter. 

France is also home to some of the world's biggest tech companies like Orange, Renault-Nissan, Accenture and Air France KLM Group.


8) India

India is the third largest country by area and second most populous country with 1.3 billion people. India's economy is the tenth largest in terms of PPP (nominal) GDP and fourth largest by purchasing power parity (PPP). The country faces many challenges, including high levels of poverty, illiteracy, and malnutrition.
